Social media is a great way to interact with clients and potential clients. If you are new to the social media world, it can be a bit overwhelming. Which platforms should you use? What do you put on these sites? When is the best time to post information?

While there are many social media platforms that you can use, the most commonly used are currently Facebook and Twitter. These are awesome tools for a small business because it is a free way to advertise.

Studies (done by the company, bit.ly) have shown that posting links to Twitter between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. will give you the highest click rank. It was also discovered that Monday is the most popular day for people to interact with fellow Tweeters.

The best time to post on Facebook is slightly different than Twitter. The average person checks Facebook between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The best day of the week to post on Facebook is Wednesday (especially at 3:00 p.m.).  On any given day, the optimal posting time is between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The study also showed that the worst time for a business to post content is from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Knowing when to post on the different social media platforms is important because it will help you reach the maximum number of people. While the time of your post is important, content relevant to your business is critical. Content that is irrelevant to your business will most likely be ignored.
