SecurePasswordTitle

Knock know, who’s there? A hacker, maybe not, maybe your password is just that ‘password.’  Let’s break this down a bit. Identification and authentication are what you use to access your favorite site such as your banking establishment or shopping site.

The password you use is to authenticate you are who you say you are by the identification such as your email address.

Ok, yes we all have what seems like a ton of passwords to remember. Using a strong identification or credentials isn’t as complicated as it seems. The most common way to remember a password is what is known as a ‘passphrase.’

This is relatively long phrase that consist of a phrase or short sentence. An example of this would be; “Iamforsureyour#1fan.” The reasoning behind this way of creating a password is because it is easy to remember yet it is a string of letters and special characters. However simple passphrases like “Iloveyou” is predictable and easier for an attacker to crack.

It is not the length that makes it more difficult it is the variation in the phrase that makes it more complicated to crack. In the example; “Iamforsureyour#1fan,” (example only) it can be made stronger by a few changes that are no less complicated to remember. For instance, changing o’s to 0’s and e’s to #’s; “I@mf0rsur#y0ur#1f@n.”

By keeping your passphrase fun and simple will make it easy to recall! So, when creating a password remember the following:

  1. Try a ‘passphrase.’
  2. Use at least 6 to 8 characters.
  3. Have at least 2 special characters such as; & and !.
