How Often is Too Often to Post on Social Media- (1)

When thinking about how often is too often to post on social media, you must remember that there is a fine line between annoying and informative. Every business is different.  The time frames below may work wonders for some, but need tweaking for others. Consider this a helpful guideline that needs to be fine-tuned to fit your particular business model. You want to intrigue your customer base, not overload them with “commercials”.

When posting to different platforms follow our handy little guide:

  • Twitter – 14 times per day, from midnight to 10:00 p.m, never more than once per hour; seven times per day on weekends, from 3:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., roughly every three hours
  • Facebook – 2 times per day, seven days a week, 10:08 a.m. and 3:04 p.m.
  • LinkedIn – 1 time per day, 8:14 a.m., no weekends
  • Google+ – 2 times per day, 9:03 a.m. and 7:04 p.m., no weekends

Keep in mind the following things:

  • Trending topics can help you reach more people.  Incorporate them into your posts when you can.
  • Banner-ad Blindness is a real thing. When your advertisement feels like an advertisement people look for a way to click out of it. Keep people interested with pictures, contests, videos, etc.
  • Be active on your page, get the last word in
  • Run contests! People love to win!
  • People trust their friends. You are more likely to get business from a recommendation than from an ad.
  • Tag and share images. Keep your audience involved!
  • Add personal touches! Talk about the new baby your secretary just had or the birthday you are celebrating today. People are more likely to engage in those kinds of posts.

Why are people on social media?

  • to chat with friends
  • to make connections
  • joining events
  • watching videos/looking at photos
  • joining groups of like minded
  • watching people (passively following them)
  • marketing
